About

Compositing taught me to design in layers.

I am a designer and compositing artist based in North York, Ontario. For more than five years I worked on film, TV, web series and commercial projects, handling lighting, rendering and animation, and coordinating animation projects.

That work taught me to hold a lot of moving parts in my head and to care about the last 5% of polish. I am now applying it to product design, learning UI and UX in depth and building in Figma.

What carried over

  1. L1Layers and hierarchyA shot is built from many layers that have to read as one image. A screen works the same way, with each element earning its place.
  2. L2PipelinesWork moves between departments, so one change affects the next. That is how I think about ordering and staffing in ClearView.
  3. L3Detail under deadlineCoordinating animation projects meant making calm, clear decisions when time was short, which is what managers need from their tools.
